The Blackwood Marathon
Saturday, 29th October, 2004 Starts 9am, Boyup Brook Location In the undulating farmlands of the Blackwood River Valley, between Boyup Brook and historic Bridgetown, about 300 km south of Perth. The Race This is a relay race consisting of 12 km run, 7.3 km paddle, 1 km swim, 16 km horse ride and 20 km cycle, from Boyup Brook to Bridgetown. Mostly teams participate, but it is open to "iron persons" as well. More than 200 teams usually participate.
There is a lunchtime break between the canoe and swim legs of the relay (food is available). The finish line at Bridgetown Sportsground has a great atmosphere as team members and well-wishers gather to cheer the cyclists home. There is also entertainment here and food is again available.
There are top prizes.
The participants range from top Olympic sportspersons to families who enter as a team .Accomodation There is a wide range of accomodation available at Bridgetown, Boyup Brook, Balingup, Manjimup and surrounding farming properties.
