"Ray Johnstone was born in Fremantle in 1943 and was educated at
Palmyra Primary School, Fremantle Boys School and John Curtin High
School. He has a B.Sc.(Hons.) from the University of Western Australia.
From 1967 to 1970 he was a Ph.D. student in physiology at Monash
University. Dr Johnstone has published widely on neurophysiology and
public health.He has also worked and taught at Keele and Cambridge
Universities in the UK and the Australian National University.
In 1973 he returned to Perth as a Research Fellow at the University of
W.A.
His other interests include:
*the ownership for 24 years of Trinity Arcade Bookshop in Perth;
*the printed book, especially those to do with science and chess, and
reference books;
*participation in the WA chess scene, both as a player and as a
director;
*University House, where he has served as President and is currently
Vice-President; and
*computing, where, after many years of computerphobia, he has at last
appreciated the value of information technology, particularly the
limitless potential of the Internet.
Ray Johnstone is married and has two young daughters."
