When considering references, it is important not to discount real training which some applicants may have acquired within the prison system.

Some excellent training, including industry accredited courses, occurs within prisons. The training officer will be able to provide you with the individual's course assessment and attendance record but is not allowed to give character references.

Remember, however, that only a small percentage of offenders go to prison, so that in most cases you should be able to contact referees in the normal way.
