Outcare Western Australia

Mark on a calendar the dates that forms need to be handed in or other information needs to be provided. If there is a problem meeting the deadline, tell Centrelink what the difficulty is as soon as possible.

Tell Centrelink about changes in your income or other circumstances, eg, you start up a defacto relationship. There is usually a specified time to advise of any changes.

Never assume that someone else is responsible for telling Centrelink about a change in your circumstances, eg, an employer, the Tax Office, or prison authorities.

Check that any information you give Centrelink is correct, eg, did you put down 1 week's wages instead of 2 by mistake? If, after you do realise that you made a mistake, let Centrelink know.

If you are unclear about exactly what information Centrelink wants from you, ask for a more detailed explanation.

If you talk to Centrelink staff personally or on the phone, write down the date, the name of the person you spoke to, and any receipt numbers you are given. Also make a note of exactly what information you gave and/or received.
Keep copies of any written information you give to Centrelink or Centrelink gives you.

Read ALL the letters and information Centrelink sends to you, including the back of any letters). You may need to provide more information, or contact Centrelink by a set date. You might miss out on important information that affects your payment.

If you have problems with people interfering with your mail at your home address, get a padlock for your letterbox or book a post office box.

If you think Centrelink has overpaid or underpaid you, contact Centrelink, check what rate you should be receiving and that Centrelink has the right information on your file.
