The name Kai is a Welsh name, spelled Cai in Welsh (we used the K to avoid confusion). It was the name of King Arthur's foster-brother in the original Celtic versions of the tale. It became Kay in later versions. Cai is actually the Welsh form of the Latin name Caius, meaning "longed for" or "rejoiced in". Valerian is a Latin name meaning "powerful", and was chosen simply because it went so well with Kai.

Please note that, in the interests of safety (and a small dose of paranoia), the photos will be out-of-date by 1-2 years (ie, enough of a gap so that neither of my children can be identified easily in real life from one of the photograghs seen on these pages).
